Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower Mint, Group D, fourth bust type 3b, no inner circles, double arched crown left, value in field behind, mintmark crown, legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MA BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, plume above oval shield garnished quartered shield of arms in frame, no CR either side, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO 5.87g (S.2793; N.2226; Sharp E2/3; Brooker 503). Well struck on a slightly irregular flan, darkly toned with clear legends and pleasing portrait, some areas of distortion, clear fields. A rarer type with the plume above shield, very fine.
