Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower Mint, Group E, fifth bust, type 4.3, inner circles, bust left, value in field behind, inner linear circles, mintmark anchor, legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MA BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, square topped quartered shield of arms under long cross fourchee, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO 5.95g (S.2796; N.2229; Sharp F3/1; cf Brooker 520). Subtle grey toning with noticeably clear fields, legends both sides legible with a few soft spots. Portrait and King's expression pleasing and well detailed. Rev, nice depiction of the coat of arms with underlying original mint bloom around the outer edges. Near extremely fine, fetching.
Bought Michael Trenerry with ticket, a further few tickets also in place.
