Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower Mint, Group E, fifth bust, type 4.1 variety, inner beaded circles, single arched crown left, larger bust with rounded shoulder, larger mark of value in field behind, mintmark anchor, [flukes to the left both sides] legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MA BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, square topped coat of arms over long cross fourchee, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO, 5.92g (S.2797; N.2230; Sharp F5/1; Brooker 525-29). Struck on a broad slightly ovoid flan, legends legible with some weakness in places, portrait comprehensive, the die perhaps showing weakness or the strike soft. Very fine with original mint bloom.
