Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower Mint, Group E, fifth bust, type 4.1 variety, inner beaded circles, single arched crown left, larger bust with rounded shoulder, larger mark of value in field behind, mintmark triangle, legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MAG BRI FRA ET HIB REX. Rev, square topped coat of arms over long cross fourchee, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO, 5.89g (S.2797; N.2230; Sharp F5/2; Brooker 533). Light cabinet tone with a great depiction of the King, legends quickly legible both sides, coat of arms pleasing, the harp a little blocky. Bold good very fine. All in all a proficiently struck example with much eye appeal.
Bought Baldwin's Fixed Price List Summer 2015, ref BH062.
