Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower Mint, Group F, 'Briot' large bust left with stellate lace collar, double arched crown, type 4.4, inner circles, value in field behind, mintmark triangle in circle, legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MAG BRI FRA ET HI REX. Rev, square topped quartered shield of arms over cross moline, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO 5.90g (S.2799; N.2231; Sharp G1/2; Brooker 549). Struck on an irregular ragged edged flan, brightly toned with underlying amber mint bloom around the obverse legends. Portrait excellent with precision and depth, legends partially legible, near extremely fine in the portrait strike.
