Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower mint under Parliament, Group G, type 4.5, seventh tall course narrow crowned bust left, double arched crown, value XII in field behind, mintmark sun, legend reads CAROLVS DG MAG BRI FRA ET HIB REX. Rev, square topped quartered shield of arms over cross moline, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO, 5.92g (S.2802; N.2233; Sharp HI/1; Brooker 564). An excellent example with light cabinet toning, portrait struck in high relief with depth and clarity, clear legends and fields. Few die flaws, executed with good dies.
