SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Antioch. Trajan. AD 98-117. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 15.29 g, 6h). Struck AD 103-111. Laureate head of Trajan right, set on eagle standing right; club to right / Laureate large bust of Melkart-Hercules right, with lion's skin tied around neck. McAlee 455A var. (draped bust); Prieur 1495A (Tyre); RPC III 3529 var. (same). Toned, metal flaws, a few scratches. VF. Very rare variety, only one other at CoinArchives.
RPC 3529 only records two specimens; the McAlee specimen, which clearly shows a draped shoulder, and a second one sold by CNG which has an area of roughness in that area making a clear distinction impossible. I believe, however, that it is actually second specimen of this coin, without the drapery.
