ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Wessex. Edward the Elder. 899-924. AR Penny (21mm, 1.44 g, 7h). Small cross/Horizontal-Pellet 1 (HP 1) type (BMC ii). Wessex (Winchester?) dies; Wulfræd, moneyer. Early period I, struck circa 899-903. Small cross pattée / VVLF+/RED MO in two lines; + • • between, pellet above and below. Cf. CTCE 304; North 649; SCBC 1087. Richly toned, minor rim loss. VF.
