Bronze buckle inscribed VIVES. Medieval, Germanic tribes, circa mid 5th century AD or later. Figure-eighth bronze loop, decorated at the back with two pairs on lines; cylindrical/slightly faceted tongue having rectangular plate decorated VIVES ("may you live") above zig-zag pattern, the whole within linear border. Traces of iron front plate (now missing) remain. Dimensions: 42x28xmm. Finely preserved and with an attractive earthen green patina. Cf. Benet R12-0202. Website shipping rates do not apply.
