BABYLONIAN. Hematite cylinder seal. Old Babylonian Period, 1925-1595 BC. (30 mm). Central bidirectional piercing for suspension. On face, three pairs of deities stand face to face. Pair one, standing slightly to the right is the god Ammaru with a crook in hand and devices below vis-à-vis Shamash. Working left, Anu, with his hand supporting a star stands vis-à-vis Marduk, with his spade below. Behind Marduk stands Ellil and a worshipper, noted by his size. There are two other devices on the seal in the top register to the right between gods: a face and a suhurmašu (a goat fish). Evidence of generational additions to carving. A good example of the type. Intact. Website shipping rates do not apply.
