PF63 BN | William and Mary (1688-94), copper pattern Halfpenny, 1694, struck on broad flan, narrow conjoined laureate and cuirassed busts right, legend and full toothed border surrounding, GVLIELMVS. ET. MARIA., rev. Britannia seated left on chair with shield, holding spear and branch, single exergue line below, date in exergue, legend and full toothed border surrounding, BRITAN NIA., 12.65g (Peck 596; cf. S.3452). An extremely rare pattern type in exemplary preservation, graded by NGC as PF63 BN.

NGC Certification 6318992-006

The Latin legends translate as on obverse "William and Mary" and on the reverse "of the Britains."

Peck (p. 160) notes the depiction of Britannia seated on a chair, rather than the usual globe, "was probably derived from the relatively common 'Zeus on throne' reverse types of the Macedonian tetradrachms."
