Liber, the Italian god of fertility and wine, equated to Bacchus or Dionysus, seems to be related to the family traditions of the Vibii, having appeared six years earlier on denarii of the Caesarian moneyer C. Vibius Pansa Caetronianus (CRI 21-22a). The reverse type is complementary to the obverse, the panther being the animal especially associated with Bacchus and the thyrsus being the god's distinctive staff.
