Corinthia, Corinth AR Stater. Circa 480 BC. Pegasos flying to left; archaic Ϙ below / Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet, pendant earring and pearl necklace, spray of ivy-leaves and berries behind; all within incuse square. Ravel 173 (P105/T135); Pegasi 64; ACGC 228 (same dies). 8.42g, 20mm, 12h.
Extremely Fine; a portrait in exquisite late archaic style. Extremely Rare.

This exceptional issue shares the same reverse die as that of one of the earliest issues of the Corinthian colony of Leukas (ACGC 229; Calciati, Pegasi p. 393, 17 = BMC 7). The date of this parallel development is confirmed by the deposit of coins sealed in the destruction of the Isthmian temple of Poseidon in c. 475 BC, (IGCH 11, Broneer, Hesperia 1955, pp 135-6).
