Charles & Johanna "Early Series" 4 Reales ND (1536-1538) M-R XF45 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM0016, Cal-115, Nesmith-6c. 13.29gm. Francisco del Rincón as assayer. Variety with PLVS V in rounded (oval) frame, and Latin R over Gothic R. A scarcer die style that was seemingly missing from the Rudman Collection, with hardly an instance of doubling or recutting aside from the assayer's initial. Minted on an almost fully round flan, this piece truly comes as a remarkable survivor which very nearly presses the upper bounds of its assigned grade--a feature worthy of note, given that the highest grade awarded for the type by NGC to date is AU55.
