Republic gold 2 Escudos 1858 Mo-FH AU Details (Polished) NGC, Mexico City mint, KM380.7, Long-pg. 225 (Extremely Rare). The first example of this mint-date we have presented, and one represented in the auction record by only a small handful of appearances, Long himself documenting 8, which he admitted contained several duplicate offerings of the same coin. In 2005, this piece was cataloged as a contemporary imitation, which may be possible given several deviations in the die style from other known specimens, particularly the shape of the 5 in the date, the softness of the word LEY on the book, and the boldness of the book's "text."
