Republic gilt-platinum Contemporary Counterfeit 8 Escudos 1860 Zs-MO VF (Surface Hairlines), Zacatecas mint, cf. KM383.11 (for original type), Fuchs-109a (Unique?). 37mm. 26.68gm. By all indications an extremely rare contemporary counterfeit in gilt platinum, for which Willy Fuchs knew of only a single example in 1975, which was in the archive of the German firm Heräus in Hanau. We have been able to locate a single other, much less attractive specimen coming to auction in recent years (Chaponnière - Hess-Divo Auction 3, May 2012, Lot 1926). Certainly of great interest to the scholar, and worthy of further research.
