Philip III gold Cob 2 Escudos 1619 MS61 NGC, Seville mint, KM48.3, Cal-1079 (assayer D not listed for this date), Cay-5007-5008, Oro Macuquino-99-100. 6.74gm. A coin which, in spite of its uneven strike, suggests a high-quality of preparation and next to no evidence of serious handling, with crisp features and die polish in the recesses of the reverse. Although the assayer's initial has been obscured by an area of flatness, it appears likely--based on the thicker arms of the cross and other die affinities with the plate coin under no. 100 in Oro Macuquino--that this is assayer G, rather than D.
