Diana, Princess of Wales (1961–1997), a studio portrait, 1991, by Stuart Devlin, 425 x 320mm., showing her profile right, wearing a diamond and pearl tiara, pearl necklace and earrings.
Sold with a letter from Wing Commander David Barton, RAF, Equerry to H.R.H. The Princess of Wales (5 August 1991), agreeing an appointment for a sitting at Kensington Palace on 7 November 1991.
The photographs in the lots 7 - 10 were taken by Stuart Devlin for his 1991 commission 'Masterpieces in Silver – The Royal Ladies Collection', a set of twenty five dollar coins for the Royal Australian Mint where they were to form the reverse design. The set was to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Commonwealth Games Federation. There is no photograph of Her Majesty the Queen as the obverse design for all the coins in the set was the traditional portrait of by Raphael Maklouf.
