The Gottschalk Medal recognises outstanding research in the biomedical sciences by researchers up to 10 years post-PhD in the calendar year of nomination. The medal was first awarded in 1979. The Mawson Medal and Lecture recognises research in the Earth sciences and honours the contribution to science in Australia by Sir Douglas Mawson FAA FRS, geologist and Antarctic explorer. The medal was first awarded in 1981. The Chairman's Medal of the Royal Children's Hospital is its most prestigious award and it recognises exemplary achievement by an individual member of staff.
