William and Mary (1688-1694), Halfcrown, 1689 PRIMO, first V over A of GVLIELMVS, first laureate and draped busts right, rev. inverted N in REGINA, first crowned shield, caul only frosted, with pearls, seven strings to harp, lettered edge, 14.76g, 6h (Bull 828; ESC 503B; Spink 3434), rubbed, cleaned and now retoned, scarcely fine, rare.
This curious obverse die may be connected with the 'FRA for FR' error witnessed in lot 763. (cf. Spink Numismatic e-Circular 8, 29 April 2021, lot 5406)
