India. Jahangir (1605-1627) – Gold Mohur, 10.90 grms, Agra mint, Azar month, AH1025/RY11
Obv: Farsi legend Noor al-Din Jahangir Shah Akbar Shah
Rev: Month, Mint, AH and RY details
Jahangir abolished his heavier weight standard in his 6 th regnal year and initiated a series of
coins with nominative legends with elaborate borders for each month of issue. This series
was substituted by designs which remained stable for every month of issue but were engraved
using the cursive Naskhi calligraphy instead of the hanging Nastaliq which had been the
mainstay of Mughal coin design. Examples of the high artistry of Jahangir's coinage, these
gold issues comprise some of the most elegant coins of Jahangir's reign. Superb Quality, Extra Fine+ Exceedingly rare.
