Nur Jahan, Silver Rupee, 11.20 grams, 21.61mm, Allahabad Mint, poetic couplet type, Obv: Zar bi-nam-i nur jahan badshah begum (coin with the name of Nur Jahan Begum), Rev: Zi-hukm shah jahangir yaft sad zewar zarb Allahabad (by order of Shah Jahangir a hundred beauties gained, struck Allahabad), (KM 168.7). Mihr al-Nisa married with Jahangir in 1611 AD, after marriage Jahangir given the name Nur Jahan means Light of the world. Before the Jahangir's death a silver rupee struck from Surat mint with the bearing name of Jahangir on obverse and Nur Jahan on reverse. On the death of Jahangir and the accession of Shah Jahan he issued an edict that all coins bearing Nur Jahan's name were to be withdrawn from circulation, melted down, and never mentioned again.
