Veerachandra Manikya succeeded in 1862 but was officially installed in 1870, which
corresponds with the date on the coin. At this time, there was no circulatory coinage struck in
Tripura. The gold coins were struck for ceremonial purposes such as to pay the 125 tanka
tribute to the British. After two years, Tripura managed to get such ceremonial coins struck
mechanically in Great Britain. Exceedingly rare, Mint Grade.
