Meiji Mint Error - Obverse Brockage Sen Year 18 (1885) XF40 ANACS, cf. KM-Y17.2 (for type). An exceptionally rare series for which to find so dramatic a mint error as a full brockage, with a survey of auction records from recent decades revealing only 4 total Meiji-era brockages having sold. We have handled just a single pair of this error for the Sen denomination previously, which brought $920 as part of our September 2011 sale of the Norman Jacobs Collection (Auction #3015, Lot 24294). As such, certainly a clear target for both Japanese and error collectors alike.
