In 1876, Serbia declared independence from the Ottoman Empire. Notes dated 1876 were created and printed to finance the war effort, but none were officially issued, as evidenced by the lack of signature on the front, bottom left. This exact banknote is illustrated in the Serbia chapter of The Banknote Book. A rare design, seldom seen, as these notes were not issued publicly. PMG mentions "Stained; discoloration".
