Provinical - UTRECHT Provincie 1581 - 1795
Dukaton of zilveren rijder 1735, Silver Type III.

A piece of the utmost rarity, coupled with distinctive surfaces found on treasure salvaged from the sea. Missing from our extensive archives, with only the year mentioned in specialized literature. The rarity has been multiplied due the presence of the rosette mintmark, reserved for Silver Riders struck in the years 1679-1681 and 1692.

Three Dutch East Indiamen, the Rooswijk, Hollandia and Vliegend Hert, are candidates for ships to have possibly transported this Silver Rider, based on the proximity of the ships' manufacture and sailing dates to that of this piece.

We rule out the Rooswijk, based on its reported cargo consisting mainly of silver bars and Mexican coinage (mainly 8 reales), with no mention of Dutch provincial silver.

The other possibility is the Hollandia, being built in 1742 and sailing in 1743. Shipping a cargo of mostly Mexican 8 reales, as well as Silver Riders from the province of Overijssel, errant pieces of Utrecht and Gelderland have been reported to be part of the salvaged treasure.

Finally, there is the Vliegend Hert. Built in 1729, set sail and sunk in 1735, with a silver cargo comparable to that of the Hollandia. However, it also transported a large amount of gold. In which, a considerable amount of gold Ducats from the province of Utrecht were found.32.41 g. RRRR. Van de allerhoogste zeldzaamheid. Zeewatercorrosie
