QAJAR, Persia – Mohamad Shah (1250-1264 AH)(1834-1848 AD), date 1258 AH (1842 AD). Silver Qiran (5.33 gm; 18 mm). Re-engraved to 1268 AH, Mint: Yazd. Choice Good VF. Extremely rare. Toned. "The re-engraved date is 4 years after the death of Mohamad Shah and succession of his son Naseraldin Shah to the throne. The post dated coins are extremely rare which were primarily minted by a major rebellion in Khorasan and the east by several powerful members of Qajar clan and their families who were unhappy with the succession of Naseraldin Shah and his grand vizir Mirza Taqi khan Amir Kabir. Rebellion was finally crushed and calm was restored to the region only to be shattered by the Anglo-Persian wars over Afghanistan just a few years later".
