Poland Medal (1653) 200th Anniversary of Gdansk's return to the Republic of Poland. Jan II Kazimierz(1648-1668). Medal 200th Anniversary of Gdansk's return to the Republic of Poland in 1653 (Höhn) A large; impressive; 17th-century medal. Formerly considered to be an issue issued to commemorate the arrival of Jan Kazimierz to Gdansk. However; when delving into its meaningful symbolism; one should agree with the interpretation of contemporary researchers. After all; on the obverse we can see the personification of Consent; lifting the coats of arms of Poland and Gdansk tied together. On the reverse: the Eagle (symbol of the Kingdom of Poland) hovering above the city skyline and the accompanying sentence: Gdansk safe under the protection of God and the Eagle. Of Gdansk to the Republic of Poland. Medal with lots of nice natural shine in the background. No unusual defects or damage. Attractive for the type. Obverse: a female figure with a laurel wreath on her head; in her right hand she holds two hearts suspended on a tape; over which there is a wreath; in the left two shields; also tied with tape; one shield is the coat of arms of Poland, the other is the coat of arms of the city of Gdansk. Above are two geniuses in the clouds holding the royal crown and palm branches; along the edge: COR REGIS CORDI GEDANI CONCORDIA JUNGIT. Reverse: view of the city of Gdansk with the adjacent land. In the distance you can see the sea; sailing ships on it and the mouth of the Vistula. In the episode; the inscription: DANTISCI COELO CONCORDIA TECTA CORONET. A crowned eagle rises above the city. Above the divine name in rays of Hebrew letters; along the edge: NUMINIS ATQUE AQUILAE GEDANUM MUNIMNE TUTUM. Iron. Reference: Raczynski 135; Hutten-Czapski 2034 RARE Weight approx: 39.60g. Diameter: 60 mm
