Kings of Mercia, Offa (757-96), Penny, Light coinage, East-Anglian mint (Ipswich?), Ecghun or Egann, xo ff a+ re in angles of floriate cross lozenge, rev. e x c h v n in angles of a six-pointed star with rosette ends, 1.23g/8h (Chick 169a, same obv. die; Naismith and Naylor –; SCBI BM 41, same obv. die; N 334; S 907). Minute edge nick at 12 o'clock and with some light porosity, otherwise very fine and toned, with a highly unusual reverse type £2,000-£2,600
