Australia Commonwealth Bank 10 Shillings ND (1954-60) Pick 29s R16 Specimen PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. A rare 10 Shillings post WWII Specimen from the first issue of Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where the Bank was the sole currency issuer for the Australia. Higher denominations from earlier issues were withdrawn to combat tax evaders. Most strikingly, compared to previous issues, there was a shift from exclusively depicting the sitting monarch on the banknotes. It would be fair to suggest that a more pro-Australian approach was used with the inclusion of portraits of individuals that were seen to have contributed to the establishing of Australia as a country. Serial number AC00 000096 can be seen, the same number as our next lot, Pick 30s. Specimen is marked clearly on both the back and the front. Matthew Flinders, the navigator and cartographer, on the face, who also renamed New Holland to Australia. This is only the second time that we have offered this variety, and is genuinely rare. Most excitingly, this is the sole finest graded example in the PMG Population Report. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/australia-commonwealth-bank-10-shillings-nd-1954-60-pick-29s-r16-specimen-pmg-gem-uncirculated-65-epq/a/4036-25277.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4036-04212022 HID08706262019 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
