South Africa Upington Border Scouts 2 Shillings 1.3.1902 Pick S711a PMG Very Fine 30. This denomination is "rare in red", according to Hern's South African Banknotes. In fact, the cataloger has never seen an example of this elusive variant. One could only speculate to why red cloth was used as opposed to the usual unbleached calico cloth used for most other types, but it would most likely have been out of necessity and a lack of resources. Although the PMG Population Report shows a mere 4 graded examples, which would put this note tied with one other as highest graded, it would most likely be the only one graded as this variant. Spectacularly rare, and an even rarer opportunity to acquire this relic.
