Kings of Charakene, Apodakos AR Tetradrachm. Dated year 187 = 126/5 BC. Diademed head to right / Herakles seated to left on rock, holding club on knee, ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to right, AΠΠΟΔAKΟΥ to left; monogram in outer left field, Z[ΠH] (date) in exergue. Sunrise 464 var. (date); Alram 495-496 var. (same); DCA 480. 14.42g, 30mm, 1h.

Very Fine; edge chipped. Extremely Rare.

From the inventory of a UK dealer.

All we know of Apodakos is learned from his coins, and as such our understanding is extremely limited. It is uncertain whether he was the son of Hyspaosines, who the latter's widow Thalassia tried to install on the throne after the king's death, or whether he was a usurper.
