Ancients; Commodus, Sestertius, 184, Obv: M COMMODVS ANTON AVG PIVS BRIT; Head of Commodus, laureate, right. Rev.: P M TR P VIIII IMP VII COS IIII P P S C VICT BRIT; Victory, winged, draped, seated right on shields, inscribing shield set on knee and held in place by left hand. During the reign of Commodus, a serious revolt erupted in Britain in AD 184, the causes of which are uncertain. The revolt was quickly put down and a series of coins was struck to commemorate the event. RIC 440, Scarce despite the missing part. 15,71 g, 25.4 mm by 28.9 mm. Great EF with a beautiful dark patina.
