MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1829-PiJS. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, VF Details Secure Holder.

KM-Pn20A var.; BH-21b (this coin). Trial strike of an 1829 Potosi pattern 8 Reales struck over a 1797 Great Britain "cartwheel" Penny. Although the exact origin of this pattern series is unknown, it is almost certainly of English manufacture. Aside from the suggestive nature of the host coin used on this example, the original matrices and punches reside in the Royal Mint. Most likely this piece was produced as a trial while testing if the dies were properly aligned and is a byproduct of that process. It seems likely this piece was also carried for some time as a pocket piece attesting for its circulated grade. The reverse shows evidence of cancelation by hand by scratching two lines in the form of an "X". We presume this piece is unique having been struck over a "cartwheel" Penny.PCGS Genuine--Scratch, VF Details Secure Holder.

Estimate: $1000
