PERU. Railroad Related Medals, 1862-1978.
Collection of approximately 70 pieces in minor metals and silver. 23-51 mm. Outstanding collection, rich in early pieces including 1868-69 silver pictorial medals featuring the trains on the Mejia to Arequipa, Mineral to Pasco, and Pisco to Ica lines. A 52 mm silver medal with an overhead view of the train access to the new port at Callao, 1870. There are also some small personal silver medals noting births, marriages, etc. in the family of railroad tycoon Henry Meiggs. Slight duplication. Retail value of more than $3,000.
