67.9 mm; 169.7 gms. Anepigraphic allegoric scene of robed female coming to the aid of a soldier on his knees, supporting a flag, five pointed radiant star above, very high relief, signed "E. FORNAGHI INV. DIS./ A. CAPPUCCIO INC."; Reverse: Crowned eagle with red cross on breast within ornate wreath, inscription "AL BENEMERITI DELLA CROCE ROSSA ITALIANA" around, engraved in the center, below a five pointed radiant star "COMM./ JOSEPH/ MERCADANTE", edge "ARGENTO". Perhaps coincidentally, a Joseph Mercadante was elected to life membership in the Italy America Society in March, 1920.CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
