ANTONINVS AVG-PIVS P P TR P XXII, laureate head of Antoninus Pius right / TEMPL DIVI-AVG REST, octastyle temple set on podium with three steps; seated facing statues of Divus Augustus and Livia within, acroteria of Romulus on left and Aeneas carrying Anchises on right, roof surmounted by quadriga, standing figure between two reclining figures in pediment. The second Temple of Divus Augustus was destroyed during the great fire of AD 80. Its precise location is not known, but may have been between the Capitoline and Palatine Hills. The temple was later rebuilt or restored, thus the legend on the reverse of this attractive aureus type, showing the decorated building in its new glory.
