Leopold I silver "Coronation of Joseph I" Medal ND (1690)-GFN MS61 NGC, Montenuovo-1221, Horsky-2416, Julius-521. 79mm. By Martin Brunner and George Friedrich Nürnberger. SIC ★ DOMUS ★ AETERNUM ★ FLOREAT ★ AUSTRIACA on edge. Certainly one of the most impressive medals produced during Leopold's reign, and one of instantly imposing dimensions. Commissioned upon the coronation of Leopold's son Joseph (later Emperor Joseph I), every element of the design is set to impress, from Joseph's Romanesque portraiture wearing a lavishly plumed helmet, to the intricate reverse scene containing a full family tree of the Habsburg emperors from Rudolf I to Leopold I. Just lightly handled in line with the certification, the piece emits an even stone-gray patina, champagne accents taking to the outer margins to produce a captivating framing effect.
