Republic gold 8 Escudos 1825 POPAYAN-FM MS64 NGC, Popayan mint, KM82.2, Fr-68, Restrepo-166.7. A peak-quality example of the type, ranked as the sole-finest within NGC's census of a current 18 examples in all. Past results reveal a clear premium placed on high-end pieces, and we note that the previously finest-certified example, the MS63-graded Eliasberg specimen, realized $12,000 hammer in a U.S. auction in May of 2021. The offering is exceptionally preserved and visually appealing, with glimmering luster that carries in a soft sheen across the planchet as it is rotated in hand, while the devices remain outlined in alluring golden frost.
