Central American Republic gold 2 Escudos 1835 CR-F MS63 NGC, San Jose mint, KM15, Fr-3, Stickney-C101 (this coin cited). Mintage: 5,452. An impressive grade in which to find any gold Central American emission of this era, with the lion's share of issues having encountered either mild circulation or post-mint damage. Presently outranked by a single MS64 between NGC and PCGS, however, it is immediately apparent that this coin stands out from the pack. Glassy and almost Prooflike over the obverse and reverse alike, the offering has further to its credit a highly detailed sunface where so many survivors see this feature flatly struck. Struck from the same reverse die as the Mayer specimen, we would note that Stickney reports that the 1835 2 Escudos minted at San Jose were actually struck in 1837.
