Republic gold "Handlova-Horna Stubna Railway" Medal 1930 UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, Kremnitz mint, M&CH-CSR1-MED5. 40mm. 31.82gm. By Anton Hám. Mintage: 10. Commemorating the completion of the Masaryk Tunnel for President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk's 80th birthday. An extraordinarily rare medal in gold, with reportedly a mere 10 examples originally produced, one of which was presented to President Masaryk himself. According to our research, just 3 other specimens have appeared on auction in the last several decades, all in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, with the Slovenské národné múzeum in Bratislava only recording a bronze representative in their collection. Despite noted hairlines in the fields in-line with the designation, the piece still appears quite charming, with residual elements of luster preserved towards the rims. Far superior to the one other certified example, which was assigned an UNC Details (Repaired) designation by PCGS.
