Henry V gold Noble ND (1413-1422) MS62 NGC, Tower mint, Pierced Cross mm, Class D, S-1742, N-1372, Schneider-244 or 245. 6.98gm. h | ЄnRIC' • DI' • GRΛ' • RЄX • ΛnGL' • Z (retrograde) • FRΛnC' • Dn'S • hyB' • (saltire stops), Henry, crowned, standing facing in ship with broken annulet on hull, sword in right hand, shield in left, mullet at wrist / (pierced cross) Ih'C • ΛVTЄm: TRΛnSIЄnS: PЄR: mЄDIV' • ILLORV' • IBΛT (saltire and double saltire stops), large floriate cross with h at center, crowned lions in angles, all within polylobe with trefoils in spandrels. A fully appreciable piece of hammered medieval gold, and certainly among the finer representatives of the type that we have offered. Henry's portrait in particular appears very finely cut, rendering a strikingly humanistic expression. For the sake of completeness, we would note some minor scuffing visible on the hull of the ship.
