Great Britain
Edward VI (1547-1553), in the name of Henry VIII gold 1/2 Sovereign ND (1547-1549) XF45 NGC, Tower mint, Arrow mm, S-2391, N-1865 (R), Schneider-645 var. (different dies). 6.01gm. (arrow) HENRIC' • 8 • D' • G' • AGL' | FRANC' • Z • HIB' • REX • (lozenge stops), Edward, crowned and mantled, enthroned facing, scepter in right hand, globe in left, Tudor rose at feet / (arrow) • IHS • AVTEM • TRANSIENS • PER • MEDIVM • ILLOR • IBAT •, crowned royal arms supported by lion (left) and dragon (right). A rather attractive example for the grade, minted on a strikingly regular and unbent planchet displaying a plethora of die polish lines on the reverse. Such suggests that this coin was probably minted from refurbished, worn dies, and that more of the flatness observed likely originated in the striking, rather than from extensive circulation wear.
