Charles I gold Unite (20 Shillings) 1642 MS61 NGC, Oxford mint, No mm, KM230, S-2732, N-2387 (R), Schneider-307 (same dies), Brooker-844 (same dies). 8.93gm. Tall narrow bust type, with LEGI spelling in declaration scroll. By all indications a quite rare die pairing for Charles I's "Declaration" Unite coinage, of which we have been able to trace only around 3 other examples having come to auction in the last two decades. Though perhaps less heralded for its artistry than the short wide bust type, the design seen here nevertheless maintains a charming appearance that is quite singular to the coinage of this period. Presently the finest of only two examples certified by NGC--and the only in Mint State--with this being the sole representative we have ever offered from these dies.
