Great Britain
George IV gold Proof Sovereign 1825 PR62 Cameo NGC, KM696, S-3801, W&R-236 (R5), Marsh-11A. Bare bust. Reeded edge. By William Wyon after Chantrey, reverse by Jean-Baptiste Merlen. Razor-sharp and flashy, with golden sunflower tone uniformly draped across the features. The artistry of this contested earlier Sovereign issue is on full display in this piece, with George's long locks of hair flaring in dramatic fashion, crisp and well-defined against the surrounding designs. Only a persistent yet light degree of friction throughout limits the grade designation from further heights.
