Victoria Proof "Gothic" Crown 1847 PR63 PCGS, KM744, S-3883, ESC-2578 var. (R2; here, in 0.925 fine silver). Plain edge. N over inverted N in UNITA variety. A highly challenging variety of the ever-popular Victorian Gothic Crown. The offering ranks of high interest in that, while the ESC-2578 variety noted on the holder insert corresponds to an issue in 0.999 fine silver, this example is noted on the grading insert to have been struck in sterling (0.925 fine) silver, rendering it an unusual find that we have hitherto not encountered. Lilac-infused steel hues dominate the obverse presentation, hints of sky-blue iridescence decorating the legends. The reverse, uniquely appealing, sees intermingled emerald and gold coloration, yielding a similarly inspiring though distinctly different aesthetic. Fine unidirectional hairlines in the fields are noted for accuracy, though no other disturbances of any consequence are observed, with the Queen's bust appearing sleek and graced with mint frost, creating a distinctive visual contrast.
