George II gold Proof "Restoration" 100 Drachmai 1935 (1940) PR64 Cameo NGC, Heaton mint, KM76, Gardiakos-201, Divo-11, Karamitsos-182. Mintage: 140. A highly elusive issue struck for the fifth anniversary of the monarchy's restoration on November 25, 1935. Due to the extremely limited mintage of a mere 140 examples, this commemorative issue remains a key to the Greek series, appearing perhaps only once or twice at auction annually on average. Sharp and decidedly reflective, with a blanket of golden frost laid upon the devices to produce a clear cameo effect. To date, only a handful of examples certifies finer at NGC, rendering this near-gem specimen a true prize for the specialized collector.
