Sicily. Carlo III Oncia (30 Tari) 1732 CP-SM AU58 PCGS, Palermo mint, KM131, Dav-1413, Spahr-53. An inspiring example of this expansive issue, measuring nearly 55 millimeters across and featuring the bust of Carlo III to the obverse, with the Sicilian motif of the phoenix rising from flames under a radiant sun to the reverse. The sharply struck and nearly completely preserved detail on this offering leave it exceedingly close to Mint State, particularly considering the significant degree of residual luster, which is tempered by a light metallic patina that exhibits fiery golden undertones. Some adjustment to the reverse, typical for this scarce type, is noted near the bottom edge, though does not render the date illegible. The sole example certified by PCGS to date.
