Venice. Pietro Mocenigo gold Ducat ND (1474-1476) MS63 NGC, CNI-VIIa.33, Bellesia-23 (R3), Paolucci-47.1 (R4), Montenegro-211. PЄ' MOCЄNICO | S | • M | • V | Є | N | Є | T | I, St. Mark standing right, presenting staff with banner to Doge kneeling left, DVX (downwards) to right / • SIT • T • XPЄ • DΛT' • Q • TV | RЄGIS • ISTЄ • DVCΛT'•, Christ the Redeemer, nimbate, standing facing in glory, book of Gospels in left hand, raising right in benediction, surrounded by mandorla of 9 stars. A very rare emission from this short-lived Venetian doge, showing only scant auction appearances in recent years. The first such example we have offered, the coin at hand is presently one of only two yet certified by NGC, with a characteristically soft strike to the devices perhaps accounting for its mildly conservative assigned grade.
