Mexico
Philip V 4 Reales 1740/30 Mo-MF MS63 PCGS, Mexico City mint, KM94, Cal-1122, Yonaka-M4-40a. A very highly graded presentation of what is typically an underappreciated denomination within the series, not least owing to the lack of survivors that come down to us in anything approaching Mint State condition. And yet we have the coin at hand--brilliantly toned and strikingly lustrous, with just a single MS64 ranking a point finer across NGC and PCGS combined. For comparison, that specimen achieved $26,400 as part of our sale of the Summit Collection last October, suggesting a strong demand for peak-graded examples.
